CCleaner 2.34.1200

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

Cleans the following:
• Internet Explorer: Temporary files, URL history, cookies, Autocomplete form history, index.dat.
• Firefox: Temporary files, URL history, cookies, download history.
• Google Chrome: Temporary files, history, cookies, download history, form history.
• Opera: Temporary files, URL history, cookies.
• Safari: Temporary files, history, cookies, form history.
• Windows: Recycle Bin, Recent Documents, Temporary files and Log files.
• Registry cleaner: Advanced features to remove unused and old entries, including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more... also comes with a comprehensive backup feature.
• Third-party applications: mRemoves temp files and recent file lists (MRUs) from many apps including Media Player, eMule, Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, MS Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and many more...
• 100% Spyware FREE: This software does NOT contain any Spyware, Adware or Viruses.

Features of CCleaner 2.0:
* Complete rebuild in C++
With the requirements for a portable version, 64-bit compatibility and Windows Vista increasing against the limitations of the old architecture. We decided to rebuild the entire CCleaner application in highly optimized C++.
* Faster analyzing and cleaning
Each scanning process was rewritten from scratch and fully optimized. The result being a noticeable speed increase in all areas.
* Portable
CCleaner can now run from a USB thumbdrive and be installed/run on a computer without a complicated setup process.
* Compact
The rewrite removed all external file dependencies, so the main EXE is now half the size of the original program and support files.
* Redesigned User Interface
The original CCleaner user interface was looking a little dated, so the GUI was redesigned with a modern look, but without sacrificing speed or usability. New icons were created for the interface and the main program icon was updated with a more modern style.
* Exclusions
It is now possible to specify files, folders and registry keys to ignore from the cleaning process.
* Loads of little tweaks
Too numerous to mention them all separately, we've tried to improve CCleaner in all areas. Changes in CCleaner 2.34.1200 (26 Jul 2010):
- Extended cookie cleaning to include HTML5 Web Storage.
- Improved Index.dat cleaning by deleting ones not locked by the system.
- Improved "Install date" detection and accuracy for Uninstall Tool.
- Improved file lock detection when analyzing to avoid false reporting.
- Improved scrolling for list control to avoid repaint problems.
- Improved cleaning of Recycle Bin.
- Improved jumplist support to avoid possible UI lock.
- Updated eMule cleaning.
- Minor bug fixes.

New AMD Roadmap Revealed

The guys over at German site ATI Forum have gotten their hands on a new CPU roadmap from AMD. Certainly some will note the new hex-core X6 1045T, but the primary points of interest here are the two Fusion processors at the bottom.

Labeled with the name "Zacate", we can see that AMD will be bringing out a single- and dual-core offering late in the fourth quarter this year. Considering the low TDP (18W and 25W) and previous reports, these will likely be the Ontario notebook/netbook chips.

These early Fusion chips will be paired with a new southbridge platform, dubbed "Hudson D1". This platform provides up to 14 USB 2.0 (+two 1.1) ports as well as six SATA 3.0Gb/s ports, all in a 6W TDP package. Unfortunately, USB 3.0 will not be available in this particular version.

Before these Fusion chips hit the market, AMD has a variety of other CPUs coming, including the aforementioned hex-core 1045T. This chip will feature normal/Turbo clock speeds of 2.7/3.2GHz. Also expected are three quad-, three tri-, and four dual-core Athlons as well as a dual-core Phenom and single-core Sempron.

Asus VG236H 3D Vision Monitor Review

Asus VG236H 3D Vision Monitor Review

Introduction

The Z-axis. Its function is far more important in life than most people would ever give it credit for.

Anyone who knows how tall they are, and I assume that's all of us, will know all about the Y-axis. Got to take something off the top shelf for a person not quite as tall as you, that'll be the Y-axis.

The X-axis is equally a part of all of our lives. It's 3 miles to the supermarket? That's the X-axis. Your room is 15' long? X-Axis again. Anyone who has ever done basic mathmatics and plotted stuff on graphs understands the X and Y axis.

In display terms we're so familiar with it we don't even think of them as axes anymore. Full-HD is 1080p, and the 1080 is the value of the Y-axis resolution. When we look at monitors, or improving our frame-rates, we deal with figures like 1280x1024 or 1680x1050 as normally as we deal with our keyboards.

But the poor old Z-axis is much maligned. Z-axis is all about depth. Distance away from you in 3D space. It first appeared in our lives with games such as BattleZone. This allowed us to move into the screen, and rotate. However because we didn't have the ability to move up and down, it was still a 2-axis game. Moving on a few years and ID brought us the seminal Wolfenstein 3D and later on Doom. These were the first two games in which the concept of moving into the screen was brought into the mainstream and they are lauded as revolutionary. Once again though they didn't take advantage of up and down. We had to wait for Quake to give the masses a game that allowed you full movement in 3D space.

So what has this all got to do with a monitor?

Monitors are, like televisions and suchlike, still 2D devices. Sure you may have the effect of moving into the screen along the Z-axis with your FPS games or whatever, but you aren't really aware of it because your brain is still processing a 2D image. You can tell the other enemy is far away because it's smaller that the one hitting you with a chainsaw, but you can't really tell how far away, and never really feel like you're occupying the same world as it.

All that changed a while ago with the introduction of stereoscopic 3D technology. We'll explain more about that later on, but the important thing is that early monitors capable of handling the refresh rate necessary to handle it were limited to 1680x1050. Most people when given the choice between a high resolution or a emerging technology chose the resolution. The rest of us sat and waited for monitors to be sufficiently high calibre to supply us with both the 3D 120hz aspect and the high resolutions we demand.

Asus have brought out the VG236H which is a full-HD monitor supporting the 120hz we need for the stereoscopic effect to work, and that is the subject of today's review.

nVidia GeForce GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 Review

nVidia GeForce GTX 460 768MB GDDR5

Introduction

Over the last 12 months, nVidia have been all about one thing - delays. Month after month, I'm sure many of you had waited for the range topping GeForce GTX 470 and 480 graphics cards. Indeed, nVidia were late to the DirectX 11 party but today no one seems to care. The bottom line is that team green have taken back the performance crown and are succeeding in their catch up endeavours. Not so long ago, we also saw the release of nVidia's eyefinity competition, known as 3D Vision and Surround. Step by step, it may seem that light is at the end of the tunnel.

One slight problem though. Not everyone on the market today can afford to drop upwards of £300 on a new DX11 graphics card. With ATi enjoying healthy sales figures from Radeon HD 5670, 5750 and 5770 SKUs, it is about time that nVidia returned with some more competition. Today we are pleased to present to you exactly that; meet the nVidia GeForce GTX 460.

I have lied slightly, in that nVidia already have a "mid range" offering on the market today known as the GTX 465. As my colleague highlighted, the cut down GTX 470/480 graphics card suffered from all of the power and heat based issues of its larger siblings but without any of the performance that made them worthwhile. To make matters worse, it is priced well above the £200 mark, making it terrible value for money. Not good news at all.

This is where the GTX 460 comes into the picture. Like the observant chaps that nVidia are, they went away and reworked the GF100 architecture to offer a native mid range graphics card. That's right, no added baggage and no inflated price tags. I think we're all eager to see what it has to offer so let's jump straight to the specifications.

First of all, we would like to make it clear that there are two versions of the GTX 460. If you decide to save £30 and purchase the 768MB version, not only will you lose out on 256MB video memory, data will be transmitted via a slightly narrower memory interface. It remains to be seen if this causes significant harm to performance but it's safe to say that downgrades such as these are never good news.

Next, I would like to point out the specifications of the GTX 460 relative to the preceding GTX 465. Despite a £80 and £40 price difference, the GTX 460 has just 16 less stream processors but considerably higher memory, shader and core clocks. Is that value for money we smell? Let's find out.
